Can rapid delivery players build sustainable growth in 2025 and beyond?

Once hailed as the “next generation of ecommerce”, quick commerce has struggled in recent years as the remaining businesses compete for a slice of a much smaller market. What needs to change?

Companies like Getir, Gopuff, Gorillas and Zapp once dominated retail industry headlines amidst a huge boom in rapid ecommerce delivery.

However, this took place in 2020 and 2021 against a backdrop of higher ecommerce penetration and increased Covid-19 restrictions, leading to a favourable environment for quick commerce (q-commerce) to thrive.

After restrictions eased, demand tapered off, while a biting cost-of-living crisis made consumers price-conscious and less disposed to pay a premium for shopping convenience.
