‘We’re at a systemic disadvantage’: Female marketers on working harder for less pay

Not only having to deal with a gender pay gap, women in marketing are more likely to take on additional responsibility without an uplift in pay. It’s a problem with no easy solutions but bubbling frustrations.

Women in marketing are working harder and being paid less than their male counterparts, our exclusive Career & Salary Survey data can reveal.

Marketing Week’s annual survey of over 3,000 brand-side marketers revealed this week that women are, on average, being paid 16% less than their male peers. A small drop from the 16.5% reported in 2023 but still double the national average of 7.7%, as recorded by the Office for National Statistics in 2023.

Marketing continues to be uniquely poor when it comes to addressing the gender pay gap.
