The Week in Tech: An electric vehicle shakeup and embarrassing websites

Marketing Week’s weekly round-up of the technology stories that impact the marketing sector: from AI to martech, regulation to public perceptions.

It feels like the electric car category is on the brink of a major shakeup. The popularity and desirability of the most famous electric car brand in Tesla has plummeted in the wake of Elon Musk’s controversial actions and involvement in the Trump administration.

Sky News reports Tesla sales across Europe have plunged by 40% in the last month, with fewer than 17,000 units being sold in February compared to over 28,000 the year prior. This being despite a 26.1% increase in overall sales for battery electric vehicles.

It varies country by country, of course, with the UK actually posting higher Tesla sales than a year prior, while Germany (of which Musk made multiple comments about its election) seeing sales plummet by 70%. Of course, this data just accounts for February and there’s been no shortage of controversy in March to put off potential customers.
