Coca-Cola CEO: Big innovations can take a decade to breakthrough at scale

The Coca-Cola Company’s CEO James Quincey stressed that the real impact of the business’s move into the alcohol ready-to-drink market could not be judged after just a couple of years.

While it can be tempting to rush to deem product innovation a success or a failure, it can take around a decade to work out if big innovation bids have truly “arrived at scale”, says Coca-Cola Company CEO James Quincey.

Quincey was speaking about the business’s move into the alcohol category during its Q3 earnings report to investors today (23 October). In recent years, the soft drinks giant has made a move into alcohol ready-to-drink products, launching collaborations between Sprite and Absolut as well as Coca-Cola and Jack Daniels. In 2025, it will release a mixed rum and coke, with Coca-Cola collaborating with Bacardi.
