P&G’s Marc Pritchard: ‘I fire and rehire myself every 18 months’

Procter & Gamble’s chief brand officer reveals how he stays “fresh” and inventive after nearly four decades with the company.

With nearly 40 years under his belt working at FMCG giant Procter & Gamble, Marc Pritchard has managed to keep on top of technological leaps and the rapidly evolving marketing landscape by “firing” himself every year and a half.

The strategy prevents the chief brand officer from becoming stagnant in his approach, a common concern among marketers that is contributing to the continued decrease in average CMO tenure.

“About every 18 months, I take the mindset that I’m going to fire myself and rehire myself as if I was coming in new,” Pritchard tells Marketing Week as part of the WFA’s Global Marketer Week 2021.
