The Week in Tech: Kevin Bacon fights AI, podcast growth and Netflix’s ad strategy

It’s not often that Kevin Bacon, Val McDermid and Sir Ian McKellen collaborate on a project so it’s unsurprising that it garners plenty of attention when they do. The project in this case? A statement on AI training that has secured the approval of some of the biggest names in media with over 13,500 signatories (from Thom Yorke to Julianne Moore) and is the loudest collective noise the entertainment industry has made about the threat of AI.
The statement simply reads: “The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.”
