The Week in Tech: Zoom (just about) rebrands, online reviews and Threads’ growth

Marketing Week’s weekly round-up of the technology stories that impact the marketing sector: from AI to martech, regulation to public perceptions.

On the agenda…

It may have slipped your attention this week but video conferencing platform Zoom has rebranded. Once called Zoom Video Communications it will now be known as Zoom Communications. Right, fine, it’s the not most exciting rebrand that you’ll see all year – but the underlying strategy behind it says a lot about how tech companies are approaching AI and the future of work in general.

Zoom, of course, became a household name during the pandemic when many of us used the platform as a way to keep in touch with family and to move business to a remote working model. It’s remained a key player in the market since – though admittedly has lost some of its shine with the rise in prominence of Microsoft Teams and Google Meet – but still generated $1.18bn (£940m) in revenue in its most recent financial quarter (up 3.6% year-over-year).
