Airbnb returns to ‘roots of affordability’ to fuel future growth

Airbnb’s CEO admits the travel accomodation business had “drifted” from its focus on affordability but says it will be “really critical” going forward.

As Airbnb hopes to scale from 500 million to 1 billion room nights booked per year, it says its commitment to “affordability” is going to be “really critical”.

In a call with investors yesterday (7 November) the business shared positive results for the three months ending 30 September, with a 10% revenue increase to $3.7bn (£2.9bn). CFO Ellie Mertz said the focus on “affordability and reliability” will be key to growth going forward and comes from understanding that while many consumers “are aware of Airbnb, there is a gap in terms of their booking confidence around what they are going to get from” the business.
