What actually is a fractional CMO?

Stretched businesses are making their budgets go further by hiring in a CMO for a day a week, while marketers themselves are eyeing up the opportunity to tap into variety.

Two words seem to have become attached to many a marketer’s LinkedIn profile of late: ‘fractional’, followed by ‘CMO’.

A quick search on LinkedIn for people using the term pulled up around 297,000 results, while the bog-standard CMO garnered 326,000. While this isn’t a watertight data analysis, it seems to back up what conversations with recruiters and job-seeking marketers have been suggesting: the ‘Fractional CMO’ is undoubtedly on the rise.
